娘惹粽 nyonya zhang

If we were to trace back our ancestry and roots all that, we are actually nyonyas! As 端午节 is just next week, we continued preparing for it today and, we are making 娘惹粽 nyonya zhang today! 娘惹粽 nyonya zhang is tasty in her own unique way! There's a tinge of sweetness from the dried winter melon slices, which makes every mouthful of it an experience. Other than the kee zhang which my mum also made, 娘惹粽 nyonya zhang is my favourite! 😀

The ingredients in this rice dumpling includes: minced chicken (boneless, without fat! healthy -that's the way) that is sauteed with dried winter melon slices, shitake mushrooms (oh my fave!), shallots, garlic, spiced with the corriander powder and ground pepper powder! With a little piece of pandan leaf for fragrance, the rice dumpling wrapped in the sheets of bamboo leaves gives off a blissful smell as the dumplings are cooking in the boiling water for about 2.5 hours. 😍

Thank you mum, you are great!

So, check out this video I made of this process! (dedicated to mum!)
